Hello Friends -
Anyone know what showed up on my work station? I'm guessing my friends on the other side of the pond will recognize these without trouble, however, on this side of the pond it is not easy to find these.
I received my package from Olde English Crackers. After I made these Christmas Crackers I was on a terror to find the insides (mostly the Cracker Snaps but I decided to buy the hats at the same time). In the US it is fairly tough to find crackers and when you do they cost an arm and a leg. So, I was determined to make them this year. The challenge was buying the snaps. I found a number of companies but all of them were in England and the shipping was more than the snaps.
Finally, I found these snaps in Washington State. Yes, I had them shipped about the same distance as a trip from Jolly Ole but shipping costs made all the difference. I haven't tested these so I can't make any guarantees but, if you want to buy them you can find them here.
I'm thinking about making some birthday cracker's for Da's birthday next month. We'll celebrate while we are in Colorado for Thanksgiving. Would that be just wrong?
I have a few other things on my work station but they are all for my final Bah!Humbug! Guest Designer appearance. I thought about doing sneak peaks but honestly, I just haven't had a chance. I hope to see you all soon. I'm sure everyone else has far more interesting things on their work desks today. You must go see Julia Dunnit's incredible costume for Miss Dunnit. If you get a chance, here is where all the fun begins.
oh gosh I remember them!! much easier to find over here, and cheap too I think, but the question is...........what are you going to put in them? lol
ReplyDeletehave fun decorating them, and don't go testing too many yourself!! looking forward to the finished articles,

Very cool! I have looked at Christmas crackers in the U.S., and you are right....extremely expensive. Now I might have to make some!
ReplyDeleteHave fun making your crackers ...I have done it a few times ... once putting choccies inside but the other times I put in a number which matched a gift in a box under the table ...so I could buy any size item.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see them all done up. Thanks for the peek and sharing, xoxo Marjo
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love Xmas Crackers! I have never made them myself but they are quite popular here in Canada and I did see a local craft shop advertising that they had got some of the "cracker strips" in last week. Must be that where I live in Canada there is a lot of British influences.
ReplyDeletePlease post pictures of your finished crackers! I would love to see them!
xoxo Karen
It wouldn't be Christmas without crackers and here in Australia it is so hot Christmas day the dye from the hats always leaks all over everything... got to love Christmas... thanks for stopping by my blog and your comment... trust me that it rarely looks like that and possibly never will again xx
ReplyDeleteOh well done you - and to be honest, I'm not sure if Snaps would ever have got to you from here in Jolly Ole - I think the sniffer dogs would have been all over them!
ReplyDeleteYou will have fun with your stash. Crackers are fun and I also want to know what you will put in them. Thanks for leaving me a comment.

Oooooo, will you tell us how you make them? You're right that in US of A they are quite pricey. I'm always tempted to buy them, but cheap out in the end. It's not a tradition here, but it sure seems like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat I really want, though, are crackers like they have in Harry Potter, lol.

Cant wait to see the finished product, have never made them myself, too much work hahahaha, or just not something I want to make when they are so cheaply bought, goodluck

I enjoy making my own crackers - personalised content always a guaranteed hit. Haven't done it for while - the trend for making them goes up and down so availability is variable! Do post a finished cracker or 2 please :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun making and using those crackers. Please show us the finished article before they get "cracked".
ReplyDeleteI've never thought about making my own crackers before! I know they're expensive over here for good ones, but as there's only two of us a box of 12 lasts 6 years! SO it doesn't work out too bad!

I love Christmas crackers, but have never made them-good luck! Happy late WOYWWED!
ReplyDeleteI love hand-made crackers - people really go to town with gorgeous embellishments and really classy stuff inside. My mum always buys the cheapest ones and we always laugh at how awful they are!!! Her goddaughter makes them for a living and sells to really high class posh expensive shops in London. She's been doing it for years. (We NEVER have those lol!!) Show us some pics of them when you've finished them!! Happy belated WOYWW, Shoshi #84
